As such we felt a change of focus was necessary to take advantage of the growing OPC market. While our goal initially may have been to augment the development of our own HMI product with OPC server sales, the resulting KEPServer product line has grown to receive market-wide acceptance as a best of breed product for OPC communications.

Because of the driver development efforts with our own HMI package, we felt that we could utilize the work spent developing these communications drivers and produce an additional revenue stream while we continued to develop our own HMI package. We embarked on this direction at the request of Rockwell Software who was looking for third party providers of communications servers to augment the communication offerings for their own RSView product. Initially this communications product was only a DDE server. We began the development of our OPC and DDE server product in early 1996. This was Kepware's primary product goal until December 1996. Kepware's initial goal was to develop a low cost alternative to HMI (Human Machine Interface) packages such as Wonderware and Intellution.
