It’s not trying to be their newest, greatest masterpiece, and if anything it seems instead to want to refine its predecessors down to their most essential elements and walk away with a simpler, more laid-back, innocent experience. Back Arrow holds in its heart all the influences which its old and storied creators carry, but it’s not trying to outdo any of them.

While season 4 took the same approach – granting Spartan and Speedy their own posters later – this image of Green Arrow feels less like it's showcasing the hero's new wardrobe and more like it's pointing the series in a new (albeit familiar) direction. Posters in the past – particularly seasons 2 and 3 – highlighted the supporting characters namely, Felicity, Laurel, Diggle, and Roy. It is also interesting that, like The Flash, this poster only features the titular character and not the rest of Team Arrow. At the same time, though, the low angle puts Oliver at street level, which works as a visual cue that the show is in fact ready to get back to engaging with street-level stories that are better suited to the kind of non-powered hero Oliver happens to be. The perspective makes it look as though Oliver is part of Star City's towering skyscrapers, underlining the "His City" portion of the poster's tagline. This time, the poster shows the Green Arrow from a low angle. The image is far more dramatic than the one used to highlight Oliver's costume change in season 4. The buzz on season 5 so far has been primarily about the series' "back to basics" approach, which is TV speak for doing what you know you're good at. This time, the show is looking to get back on track after two seasons that took the street-level superhero into territory best suited for his super-powered contemporaries. And that's fine, as its time to move past the hors d'oeuvres portion of the upcoming television season and to make room for the main course, which is set to arrive in just a few weeks' time.Īs the elder statesman in The CW's comic book line up, Arrow has a different set of expectations set upon its shoulders as the series gears up for its fifth go-round with the Green Arrow and his merry band of misfit vigilantes. Considering the amount of promos, advance images, and interviews from Comic-Con on that have filled the void since each series' respective finales this past spring, the pre-premiere gossip carcass has pretty much been picked clean. At this point, it is just a waiting game for Arrow season 5 and the rest of The CW's DC Comics TV shows.
